The Volcker Rule is a federal regulation enacted in 2012 that restricts commercial banks from using their own accounts for certain investment activities and restricts transactions with hedge funds and private equity funds. Under this regulation, banks’ losses on their investment activities will not directly limit their ability to provide loans to consumers and businesses.
