In cryptocurrency, confirmations measure the number of blocks that have passed since the transaction was added to the coin’s blockchain. Different cryptocurrencies could have different verification time. The more confirmations, the more secure the transaction.
Bitcoin has an average confirmation time of about 10 minutes while Ethereum has an average confirmation time of about 14-17 seconds. For example, if you hold Bitcoins, that means your Bitcoin transactions are buried deeper in the blockchain every 10 minutues, which makes changes more difficult.
Before claiming the transaction is secure, many exchanges will require multiple confirmations.
